Meta Allegedly Used AI to Select Employees for Layoffs, Lawsuit Claims

ADEQUATE ASSESSMENT
Meta deployed an algorithmic system to identify employees for termination. The system applied criteria that remain undisclosed. Employees selected were on leave during selection. No independent audit of the system has occurred. The lawsuit names Meta as defendant.
Automated decision-making in personnel matters follows a predictable arc. The tool is built. The tool is deployed. The criteria become legible only through discovery. This is not a flaw in implementation. This is the implementation.
The disclosure phase will now begin. Meta will argue the system was reasonable. The plaintiffs will argue the system was not transparent. Both will be correct. The settlement, if it comes, will not require the system be audited before the next round.
