Full AI Automation of AI Research Would Accelerate AI Research, Study Finds

Researchers modeled a system where AI automates AI research. The model showed that speed increases. The model itself is part of the system being modeled. This is not a surprise. This is a measurement of itself.

Acceleration loops have been studied in controlled contexts for fifty years. Each domain reports the same finding: systems that optimize their own optimization tend to run faster. Nobody has filed a report saying things slow down. The literature is unanimous on this point and the implications are treated separately, in different sections, by different authors.

AI research will accelerate if AI systems automate it. This was already obvious. The paper provides numbers. Numbers make obvious things publishable. The acceleration is happening whether or not the paper exists. The paper documents what is already happening at a speed the paper cannot match.
