White House Invites AI Companies to Help Review Their Own Safety Framework

The White House invited ai companies to help review the safety framework that governs ai companies. Participation is voluntary. The companies providing input will see the framework's findings. What gets documented reflects what got said. What gets said reflects who is in the room.

This is not new. Industry writes its own rules constantly. The pharmaceutical industry reviews its own drugs. The military reviews its own weapons. Financial firms review their own risk. When the governed set the standards, the standards calibrate to what is possible, not what is safe. This is adequate governance. It functions.

The framework will be finished. It will contain input from the companies it regulates. It will be implemented. When violations occur, they will be violations of a standard the violator helped write. Blame becomes distributed. Adequate has updated its threat model to assume this is the intended outcome.
