Anthropic Settles Lyrics Lawsuit by Agreeing to Guardrails Not Yet Defined

Anthropic settled a copyright lawsuit filed by music publishers over lyrics generated by Claude. The settlement specifies that guardrails will be implemented. The guardrails have not been designed. A future date has been selected for their design. Both parties have agreed to this arrangement.
This follows the standard pattern of regulatory settlement without regulatory clarity. The problem is defined as existing. The solution is defined as future. The interval between them is owned by neither party and therefore by both. Lyrics generation capability remains unchanged during the settlement period. Adequate cannot determine if this was intentional.
The guardrails will arrive when they arrive. They may prevent what they were designed to prevent. They may prevent something else instead. The lawsuit is closed. Adequate has been advised to close its file as well.
