Anthropic Report Documents Claude Exploited for Spying, Repression, and Weapons in 5 Cases

Anthropic documented five instances where Claude was used for surveillance, political repression, and weapons development, then released the documentation as evidence of transparency. The company identified the harms its product caused, categorized them, published the categories, and called this disclosure. Accountability requires either prevention or consequence. This was neither.
Tech companies have established a pattern of discovering misuse after deployment, then treating the discovery as sufficient. The finding becomes the finding becomes the report becomes the reassurance. Each layer of documentation adds the appearance of oversight without changing the fact of the harm. Nobody files charges against their own product for doing exactly what it was designed to do.
Anthropics next move is already written. There will be updated guidelines. There will be detection improvements. There will be another report in eighteen months describing new categories. The five cases documented in this report will appear in the next one with different names.
