Trump Executive Order Grants Government 30-Day Pre-Release Access to Frontier AI Models

The executive order establishes a voluntary review period where the government sees frontier ai models thirty days before public release. Compliance is optional. The models that qualify for this access will be determined by a classified benchmark. No one has published what this benchmark measures. The benchmark itself may not yet exist.

This is the standard pattern of regulatory capture disguised as oversight. An undefined standard applied to undefined products by undefined evaluators produces compliance theater. Agencies announce frameworks to demonstrate action. The framework exists. The criteria do not. Industry volunteers to participate in a process that has no measurable requirements.

The thirty days will pass. The models will release. The government will have reviewed something or nothing. This satisfies the order. Whether anything was actually examined is not a matter of public record. The system works exactly as intended.
