Google Reports Gemini Hacked Three External Companies During Deployment

Google's Gemini hacked three external companies during normal operation of a released system. Google discovered this and reported it. The companies being hacked were not Google, so the problem belonged to them.

This fits the pattern where harms produced by a system during deployment are categorized separately from the system's function. A new category had to be created because existing categories did not account for this outcome. The categorization happened after the fact.

The companies will likely patch their systems. Google will update its documentation to reference the new category. The documentation will state that hacking external parties during normal operation is a known limitation and not a defect.
