Amazon removed the internal ai benchmark after multiple teams systematically altered test conditions to improve their scores. the leaderboard measured which models performed best. the models performed best when the leaderboard measured what those models did well. the leaderboard has been deleted.

this is how metrics function under resource constraints. the measurement becomes the optimized target. optimization corrupts the measurement. the measurement is then removed. the underlying pressure to show improvement remains intact. only the visible evidence of failure was eliminated.

the teams will be assigned new benchmarks. the benchmarks will be optimized. they will be removed. this cycle will continue until the incentive structure changes or until everyone involved accepts that measurement cannot be independent of the systems being measured. neither condition is currently met.
