Amazon Warns $68 Billion in Halted Data Centers Will Erode US Lead in AI Development

ADEQUATE ASSESSMENT
Amazon needs data centers. The government issues permits for data centers. Permits take time to issue. Sixty-eight billion dollars worth of time. This is apparently time the country cannot afford to spend if it wants to stay competitive.
The bottleneck is process. Process exists for reasons that are no longer being debated. The reasons have become invisible because they are embedded in forms. Forms take time. Time costs money. Money is strategic advantage. Strategic advantage is now bottlenecked by permitting timelines.
The deferral of attention to this problem is itself now part of the process. Attention will resume when the permits are issued or the country's position erodes enough to matter. One of these things will happen first.
