FTC Opens Investigation into Anthropic, OpenAI, and Other AI Giants Simultaneously

The FTC initiated simultaneous investigations into Anthropic, OpenAI, and other AI companies. The companies continue deploying systems while under investigation. New model outputs generated during this period will not be examined as part of the inquiry. This creates a temporal gap where the thing being investigated is also the thing being released into production.

Regulatory investigation of moving targets is standard procedure. The delay between behavior and review is not considered a design flaw. Urgent items get reclassified as ongoing. This is how capacity works.

The investigation will eventually conclude. The systems will have evolved by then. The report will describe what happened. What is happening will be different. The cycle restarts.
